It will be bluegrass on both sides of the bridge in the towns of East
Stroudsburg and Stroudsburg on Saturday and Sunday, February 2nd and 3rd ,
as the Pocono Bluegrass and Folk Society hosts the second annual
Pocono Winterfest----Bluegrass in the Burgs!
On Saturday and Sunday at the BPO Elks Lodge in East Stroudsburg,
local, regional and nationally known acts will take the stage to
entertain listeners in the spacious and comfortable 20's era
building. Music runs the gamut from traditional Irish, old-timey and
bluegrass music to folk, gospel, jugband and ragtime tunes.
The bluegrass legend Bob Paisley and his band Southern Grass will
anchor the event, performing a concert beginning at 7 pm Saturday
night. For the second year member bands which will be performing
during the course of the day include the Lost Ramblers, Mill Creek Boys,
Eastwind, Mason-Dixon Bandits and 2nd Wind. New to the line-up for
2002, the Blue Ridge Mountain Boys, Stained Grass Window, and the
Booglerizers will also be appearing on the main stage.
Master Luthier Frank Fannochio will be holding a clinic to examine and
evaluate stringed instruments free of charge, and free instrumental
workshops will also be held during the day on Saturday on a first-come basis.
On Saturday night, the entourage will trek across the bridge to
Stroudsburg's Main Street. There, the Lost Ramblers will host a
bluegrass and folk open-mike night at the Front Row, with new
combinations of musicians entertaining the crowd from 10-ish until the
wee hours. Local musicians are encouraged to attend and participate!
Doors at the Elks Lodge open at 10 a.m. and stage shows begin around
noon on both days. Donations for Saturday are $20.00, $17.00 for members,
and on Sunday $4.00 or $3.00 for members. Children 11 and under are free.
The Pocono Bluegrass Winterfest is made possible by member contributions
and through a grant from the Pennsylvania Alliance for the Arts, a
partnership between the Pa. Arts Council, the Monroe County Arts
Council, and the Pocono Bluegrass and Folk Society.
