The Pocono Bluegrass and Folk Society is proud to present the 4th annual WinterFest: Bluegrass in the 'Burgs!, three days of great folk and bluegrass music, workshops, worship, and great fellowship.
On January 30, 31st and February 1st, 2004, 17 bands, including Bob Paisley and Southern Grass and Valerie Smith and Liberty Pike will grace the stage at the BPO Elks Lodge in East Stroudsburg, Pa. There will be coffee houses on Friday night and an inter-denominational worship service at 11 a.m.on Sunday morning which is free to the general public.
"Last year's WinterFest was a wonderful success, thanks to the hundreds of musicians, volunteers and listeners that came out to support and enjoy the music, " said Pete Pappalardo, PB&FS volunteer.
The event begins on Friday evening with free entertainment: a coffee house at WeeGees and Mollie's bluegrass dinner show on Main Street in Stroudsburg; there will be a jam with the Lost Ramblers at the Best Western Lounge later that night.
On Saturday, stage shows begin at the Elks at 11 a.m. featuring the sweet, hard driving sound of bluegrass icon Bob Paisley and seven other regional bands. Also on Saturday, a limited number of participants can enroll in free workshops on mandolin and fiddle with Coleman and Austin Smith on fiddle and mandolin virtuoso Todd Collins, or have their musical instrument evaluated --- again, for free --- by Martin Guitar's erstwhile master luthier, Frank Finnocchio.
Saturday evening, the tribe reconvenes at the Best Western for more musical mayhem; then, on Sunday the Pocono Choral Society and several other bands will join the Reverend Glenn Simmons for a free inter-denominational service at 11:00 a.m., followed by stage shows with six regional bands and Valerie Smith, a rising star in bluegrass who has enjoyed numerous hits on the charts.
Cost of tickets at the door are $25.00 on Saturday and $15.00 on Sunday for the general public, $3.00 less for PB&FS members. Advance tickets for the weekend are $30.00, for Saturday are $22.00 and for Sunday, $12.00, with $3.00 discounts for members.
The Elks Auxiliary will provide food and beverages, and the events of the main stage on the second floor will be simulcast to the handicapped accessible main floor of the building.
